4th of July!! ***____****
As we come to another year of celebrations we have to remember why we celebrate July 4th. While we enjoy to fireworks and the BBQs with family there is more than just a day to have fun. While doing some research on the internet I came across PBS (KQED) website giving a short but informative article on Independence Day (4th of July). In the article it states that "On June 11, 1776, the Colonies' Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and formed a committee whose express purpose was drafting a document that would formally sever their ties with Great Britain. The committee included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livngston" (PBS). With the Declaration of Independence written and finalized July 4, 1776 we were once free from English Parliament. Recently in the chapters we have been reading we see that Britain has always had their foot in every direction. With their strong trading system and supplies they offered all over the world, they dominated many areas which resulted in them in charging costly fees when purchasing items from them. Just like we read in chapter 18, "Britain was exporting 60% of its cotton-cloth production, annually sending 200 million yards to Europe, 300 million yards to Latin America, and 145 million to India" (P.788). Not only that but "Britain was sending about half of its saving overseas as foreign investment" (P.789). We see that Britain was literally everywhere and that many were going to them for their products. I am appreciative of what our found fathers have done for us and will continue to raise my flag high in the area to represent the land I live and choose to live on!!!
