Looking Back

When looking a the second-wave of civilization we see that there was a comparison between the First Civilization. "These empires have provided legitimacy for contemporary states" (Strayer 65) . For example, China brought Communism to the twentieth century The Chinese leader Mao Zedong compared himself to Shihuangdi. Mao declared that we buried 460 thousand Confucian scholars to the charge of being like Emperor Qin where Emperor Qin Shihuang buried only 460 Confucian Scholars.

Like modern day Indians they wanted to present their country as a culture that tolerated nonviolence. This has been linked to Ashoka. India soon became independent from the British colonies.
