It was sad..
What made me sad was realizing that we have had at least five massive die offs. One discussed in the book was the "Permian mass extinction", which occurred 250 million years ago and eliminated 96 percent of living species on the planet. Causes; massive volcanic eruptions, the release of huge quantities of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, and a degree of global warming that was close to killing off everything on the planet.
65 million years ago another extinction happened killing 75 percent of animal and plant species, which included Dinosaurs. Causes were very similar to the Permian extinction. Massive volcanoes, climate change, but there was also a huge asteroid that hit earth as well.
What makes me more sad is that many believe that we are also going through another extinction. Which can be seen with the recent climate change, the book states that "Human beings have affected the atmosphere and the oceans as carbon dioxide and other emissions of the industrial age have warmed the climate of the planet in ways that broadly resemble the conditions that triggered earlier extinction events. This is scary to think about but it's the circle of life in my opinion. With the recent COVID-19, I have heard that nature has been healing. I don't know how much healing it has done but I feel that if we don't start now we will possibly become extinct with time. I am saddened by the reading but also interested in what can be done to help.

I love the visuals! Yea it is pretty sad to imagine how things seem to be like a cycle and theres a process of almost a Darwinistic sense., survival of the fittest. The earth is being affected, so it will affect us. I too agree that we as the inhabitants must take care of the planet in order to hopefully keeping not just ourselves healthy but the earth as well.
